Heat pump water heater (HPWH) and heat pump space heating (indoor home heating) are now available. They will reduce your energy bill money every month and are reliable and will last for years.
I did evaluate the Rheem heat pump water heater. It’s a quality unit, with low noise emission, worthy of a closer look, as you remodel or build new.
Heat pump water heater installation requires rethinking of how conventional water heaters are installed. Air venting is key along with installing an electrical circuit, either 20 or 30 amps. Here’s a venting diagram for optimizing hot air flow down into the heat pump water heater and returning cool air into your attic space, a systems approach to the installation. Having cooler attic air space in the summer will make your home more comfortable and reduce your air conditioning energy bill too.
As always, I do recommend attic and wall insulation, weather stripping and insulated windows. Think of your home/building as an envelope. There is efficiency is sealing where air escapes.
